Ms. Tiera Burks, age 20, of Elba, Ala., died Wednesday, March 28, 2018, at Southeast Alabama Medical Center in Dothan, Ala.
Funeral services were held April 3, 2018 at Coleman Funeral Home of Elba.
Tiera was born in Enterprise on March 24, 1998 to Bertha Mitchell and Tony Burks. She attended Elba High School and graduated in 2016.
Survivors include her daughter: Nevaeh, Elba; mother: Bertha Mitchell, Elba; father: Tony (Dianne) Burks, Elba; sisters: Karis, Karin, Karissa, Kayla, Tamera, Lazaria and Tiffany; brothers: Terrell, Anthony, Aron, Tyron, Darrean, JaKori, Michael, Kody, Teddy, and Cornelius; boyfriend: Jeramiyah Musgrove; and a host of step brothers and sisters, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Elba woman charged with murder after running another woman over with car
ELBA, Ala. – At approximately 8:00 p.m. on March 27, the Elba Police Department responded to the report of a vehicle crash near the intersection of Farris Street and Kendrick Street involving a pedestrian.
The victim, Tiera Burks (20), of Elba, was transported by air ambulance to Southeast Alabama Medical Center in Dothan where she was treated, but later succumbed to her injuries.
Investigation into the crash revealed the victim has been in an altercation involving another individual which led to the victim being struck by the offender’s vehicle. Further investigation subsequently led to the arrest of Danae Ware (33), of Elba, AL.
Ware is currently in the Coffee County Jail with no bond until a first appearance on the charge of murder.

Elba woman arrested in connection to murder
The Elba Police Department announced Wednesday, the arrest of an Elba woman in connection to a March 27 incident that left one Elba woman dead.
According to a news release, Elba PD at approximately 8 p.m. on March 27 responded to a report of a vehicle crash near the intersection of Farris St. and Kendrick St., behind the Family Dollar in Elba, involving a pedestrian.
The victim, Tiera Burks, 20, of Elba, was transported by air ambulance to Southeast Medical Center in Dothan where she was treated and then later died due to the injuries she suffered in the incident.
The investigation into the crash revealed that the victim had been in an altercation involving another individual, which led to the victim being struck by the offender’s vehicle, according to the news release.
Further investigation by the Elba PD led to the arrest of Danae Ware, 33, of Elba.
Ware is currently being held with no bond at Coffee County Jail until her first appearance on the charge of murder.

Neighbors and family members react to Elba woman’s murder
20-year-old Elba resident Tiera Burks died Tuesday, March 27 after being run over by a vehicle right in her front yard.
33-year-old Danae Ware has been arrested and charged for her murder.
Police investigation reveals Ware and Burks has an altercation, which led to Ware striking Burks with her vehicle.
Burks was transported to a local hospital where she later died.
Neighbors and family members say her death was tragic for the community and the altercation never should have led to murder.
Councilman Rolanda Jones will be holding a support and fundraiser event in April, with proceeds to go to Ms. Burk’s family.

Grand jury to hear Elba woman’s murder case
ELBA – A Coffee County grand jury will consider the case against an Elba woman accused in a March 27 murder.
Coffee County District Judge Christopher Kaminski entered an order stating probable cause was found to exist during Danae Ware’s preliminary hearing; the case has been bound over to a grand jury.
Ware, 33, of Elba, was arrested March 28 and charged with the murder of 20-year-old Tiera Burks.
Police believe the incident stemmed from a verbal and physical altercation between the two women, which led to Ware allegedly striking Burks with her vehicle. Burks was transported to a Dothan hospital for treatment but later died from her injuries.
Ware told the police she did not intend to hit Burks with her car; she said she lost control of the vehicle when she was struck by Burks’ boyfriend through the vehicle’s window.
Kaminski granted the defense’s motion to reduce bail. Ware could be released from the Coffee County Jail by posting a $50,000 standard secured bond.

Bond reduced once again for woman facing murder charges
ELBA –A Coffee County District Judge reduced a bond amount of an Elba woman facing murder charges.
Danae Ware, 33, of Elba, went before Judge Christopher Kaminski during a bond reduction hearing. Kaminski reduced Ware’s bond to the standard bond amount of $30,000.
This was Ware’s second bond reduction hearing. During her last bond reduction hearing, Kaminski set her bond at $50,000. However, defense attorney Joshua Pipkin filed a motion on Aug. 23 requesting a bond reduction hearing. The motion stated his client was unable to pay excessive bond requirements.
Ware was arrested March 28 and charged with the murder of 20-year-old Tiera Burks.

Woman indicted for murder for running over Elba woman with vehicle
COFFEE COUNTY, Ala.– The woman charged with running over another woman at an Elba apartment complex earlier in March, has been indicted for murder by a Coffee County grand jury.
Danae Ware was arrested after she allegedly ran over and killed 20-year-old Elba resident, Tiera Burks, in her own front yard on March 27.
A police investigation reveals an altercation between the two is what led to Ware allegedly striking Burks with the vehicle she was driving.
Burks was transported to a local hospital where she later died.
Ware’s arraignment hearing has been set for January 15th at the Elba Courthouse.
