54-year-old facing murder charges after Dothan shooting

A 19-year-old could face the death penalty after being charged with the murder of his two-month-old baby son in southeastern Alabama.

Jaylin Jamal Toles was arrested in Ozark after calling to report an unresponsive child at around 1.40am Saturday.

Chief Marlos Walker said a preliminary examination by Dale County Sheriff’s deputies suggested blunt force trauma as the cause for the child’s death.

Arrested: Jaylin Toles (left) was arrested early Saturday morning for allegedly murdering his two-month-old son.

A photograph on Toles’ Facebook account shows what appears to be a newborn child at Christmas, named ‘Baby J’. The baby is believed to be Toles’s son.

The baby, who is not yet being formally identified, was found at the mother’s home on the 100 block of Claybank Avenue.

No other adults or children were inside the house when police arrived, Walker said.

The infant was rushed Dale Medical Center around a mile and a half away, where he was pronounced dead.

His body will be sent to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences for further investigation. The results of an autopsy are expected within the next 48 hours.

Because Alabama allows capital murder charges on victims under 14 years old, Toles could face the death penalty if convicted, WTVY reported.

‘This is a horrible tragedy and our prayers go out to the family of our two-month-old victim,’ Walker said.

Toles has been jailed without bond. He is expected to go to court some time this week.
