Testimonials
August 31, 2017:
On Tuesday 08/15/17 my life changed forever. My bestfriend, husband and child’s father was taken from me. He was robbed and shot to death. I have a hole in my heart. Carl has been my best friend for almost 19 years. He was a great dad. He made sure our princess had everything she needed and most of her wants. He was our knight in shining armor, our protector, bug killer, referee, counselor, and provider. He was always smiling which got him his childhood nickname “cheese”. He was always willing to help and would give you the shirt off his back. Our time was cut short. We had soo many trips to take, birthdays, and anniversaries to celebrate. God wanted you more. I don’t want to accept it. I’m still waiting on him it stick his key in the door and walk in the house. I’m numb I don’t think I will ever get over this loss. Having talked to you 45 minutes before your life was taken I wish I would have said everything I never said. R.I.H bestfriend until we meet again.

Capture of murder suspect in Enterprise a team effort
The discovery and capture of a murder suspect Wednesday in Enterprise relied on the cooperation of numerous area and regional law-enforcement groups.
During a news conference Thursday in Enterprise City Hall, Enterprise Police Chief T.D. Jones praised the work of the groups, which included the EPD, Dothan Special Response Team, the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office and U.S. Marshals. The raid of the apartment to apprehend the suspect — Jareece Edward Blackmon, 23, of Enterprise — resulted in no injuries to anyone.
“It was a great day for law enforcement,” Jones said.
Blackmon is a suspect in the murder of Carl Andre Sewell, 32, of Mobile, who died Tuesday night in Enterprise from multiple gunshot wounds. At around 10 a.m. Wednesday, EPD had received word that Blackmon was in an apartment at the Aspen Hills complex at the intersection of Alberta and Lee streets. EPD attempted to make contact with Blackmon to get him to leave the apartment, but was unable to secure him.
The rest of the complex was evacuated as EPD contacted the U.S. Marshals Task Force for assistance, as well as the Dothan SRT.
Even though the apartment was sufficiently surrounded by law enforcement, Hillcrest Elementary School, which is about a mile from the apartment complex, was on soft lockdown from 12:30-2:09 p.m. Wednesday. Soft lockdown involves no children being allowed outside and the building’s doors locked, Jones said.
“The safety of our children there is utmost,” he said.
At about 2 p.m., with dozens of people looking on from a large nearby parking lot, the Dothan SRT went into the apartment. Capt. Bubba Ott of the Dothan SRT said his team used diversionary devices like flashbangs to give the team a few seconds each time to get in place while the targets were disoriented. The team tore down the apartment’s front window, with officers stationed at the window and the front door.
Ott said the extraction relatively simple, and that about 90 percent of the apartment was cleared through the use of a robot and a K-9 officer before entry was made.
Ott said that when the team arrived at the apartment, a good perimeter had been established by EPD, and said the effort was one of the best multi-agency operations he has done.
“I’ve been to other counties, other cities, and the teamwork between the Enterprise PD and the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office and our guys was just seamless yesterday,” Ott said.
Authorities also discovered a duffel bag containing 20 pounds of marijuana and several firearms in the apartment.
Blackmon has been charged with murder as well as trafficking marijuana. Twelfth Circuit District Attorney Tom Anderson said a complete analysis of the evidence is ongoing. There is a potential of escalation of charges, he said.
Two other individuals — Delicia Sweet, Blackmon’s mother, and Jameson Blackmon, his brother — were removed from the apartment. Sweet, 45, of Enterprise was later charged with trafficking marijuana and had an outstanding warrant in Coffee County for failure to appear. EPD has obtained an arrest warrant for Jameson Blackmon, 26, of Enterprise, also for trafficking marijuana. As of Thursday morning, Sweet and Jareece Blackmon were incarcerated in the Coffee County Jail, while EPD was looking for Jameson Blackmon, who was interviewed and released before discovery of the marijuana in the apartment.
The investigation is ongoing, Jones said.
Jones said Wednesday’s heat was made the effort tougher on the officers with the extra vests they had to wear, but all officers were properly rehydrated after the incident and suffered no illnesses.
